Fawning Sycophants

Posted in Work Related at 4:49 pm by Flogsnozzel

Flog, I’m a little bewildered and embarrassed by some behavior that I see at work. Every time that we are to have an upper management visit to our store, we have to depart from our normal routine, which by the way made this company great and pretend to be something we are not. You know, hide the freight, as if we are not in the retail business. A coat of fresh paint on anything not moving, mow the grass again, put the dress whites and man the rails. What in the world causes this behavior? The smell of fear actually permeates the air. I don’t expect an answer, I just wanted to get that off my chest.

Dear Embarrassed,

I’ll take a shot at it. Sucking up to the bosses is a time honored weasal tradition and an excellent way to keep your job in companies that foster that type of behavior. The technique has been around since the dawn of humanity when the first cave dweller said to his tribal leader, ” You make good fire. Me could never make fire that good. Your club is the biggest.”  Thanks to evolution,  we have gone from butt sniffing to butt kissing and the seeds of capitalism were sown. I hope this helps?

Is the Customer Always Right?

Posted in Unrecognized Laws, Work Related at 8:21 pm by Flogsnozzel

No question here, just an editorial comment. The customer is usually right, but when the customer wants to abuse or assault the staff, requests a receipt in excess of his or her purchases to fiddle his or her taxes: issues preposterous threats; insists on returning unreturnable merchandise; demands to be hugely compensated for an immaterial or imaginary problem or otherwise behaves like a knucklehead just to see if he or she can get away with it, the customer should be considered dead wrong, and shown the door.

Of course, its not as catchy when you say it that way.

An expanded version of this editorial comment will be posted in the Op-Ed page on shopsulphursprings.com by the end of the week.
